Description

Vitamin D is important for health because it plays a vital role in maintaining various bodily functions. It is essential for maintaining strong bones and teeth by helping the body absorb calcium. It also helps in regulating the amount of phosphorus and calcium in the body, which are needed for healthy bones, teeth, and muscles.

Vitamin D also plays an important role in the immune system, helping to protect against infection and inflammation. It may also be linked to reduced risk of certain cancers, heart disease, and diabetes. Studies have also shown that vitamin D may play a role in mental health and in preventing depression.

Vitamin D deficiency can lead to a number of health problems, such as rickets in children, osteomalacia in adults, and osteoporosis. It can also make people more susceptible to infections and illnesses.

Given the importance of vitamin D, it is important to ensure that individuals are getting enough of this vitamin through their diet or supplements, especially for people who have limited sun exposure. Testing vitamin D levels through a blood test is recommended if there is a concern of deficiency.

A person who is a digital nomad or works from home should consider getting a vitamin D test because they may be at risk for deficiency. Vitamin D, also known as the "sunshine vitamin," is primarily produced by the body when the skin is exposed to sunlight. People who spend a lot of time indoors or who live in areas with limited sunlight may not be getting enough vitamin D through natural means. Additionally, people who have a more sedentary lifestyle as digital nomads or who work from home may also have lower levels of vitamin D due to lack of exposure to sunlight.

Low levels of vitamin D can lead to a number of health problems, including weak bones and muscle weakness. Vitamin D also plays an important role in the immune system and may be linked to reduced risk of certain cancers, heart disease and diabetes. Therefore, getting a vitamin D test can help identify any deficiencies and allow for appropriate supplementation or lifestyle changes to improve their vitamin D levels.

What to expect

Please note: The e-lab service is currently limited to the United States. However, the service is not available for individuals that reside in AZ, NY, NJ, RI, or Puerto Rico due to restrictions on 3rd party billing. Clients must also be 18 years of age or older to consent to and purchase a lab order.

Once you purchase an e-lab service, you will receive an email with information explaining your next steps, which includes setting up an account in our HIPAA-secured patient management system called Healthie, and filling out some required forms.  Healthie is the platform we use to keep your sensitive and personal health information secure.  You can set up the Healthie app on your mobile device for easy access.

e-Lab orders will be generated within 3-4 hours of receipt. The requisition form is made available to you within the Healthie's e-Labs tab. The e-lab order is sent directly from Healthie to Quest labs, so clients do not need to bring any paperwork with them to their blood draw appointment other than a valid photo id. You may take a copy of the requestion form to your appointment as a back-up.

Once your requisition is ready, you will need to contact your local Quest Diagnostic facility and set up an appointment for a blood draw. Lab order results are available within 30 days. You will also receive an email from us giving you some additional information about your results.

You can find a Quest Diagnostic lab here to schedule your blood-draw appointment.

By clicking the “Get Started Now!” button, you will be taken to the costs and billing page for this service. Please note that just clicking the button will not obligate you to purchase the service.
